March Highlights
March was full of fun at Wheatberry Books. We enjoyed seeing everyone at the Spring Downtown Open House. So many folks were dressed for St Patrick's Day and gave us lots to smile about! We hosted our very first pop-up shop that weekend with Rachel Boldoser and her magnetic leather bookmarks. Rachel had a very successful day, and we can't wait to welcome her back later in the year.
A major highlight last month was the launch event for Wes Molebash's latest book "Travis Daventhorpe Powers Up!" held at Rost Coffee. We had a great turnout, and the kids asked the best questions! Thank you to everyone who supported Wes through our preorder campaign or by stopping in at the launch party. Copies of both of his middle-grade graphic novels are available for purchase at Wheatberry Books.

Ohio author Mindy McGinnis is returning to Wheatberry Books on Friday April 5 to celebrate the release of her new book, "Under This Red Rock". This book is a mesmerizing young adult psychological mystery following a teen girl who is grappling with the death of her brother as she starts a new job in the caverns of Ohio - only to become the number one suspect in her coworker's murder. Guests will have the opportunity to chat with the author and purchase signed copies of her books. Refreshments will be provided. Tickets are free, but seating is limited.

March Book Club Information

In our "Back to School Book Club", members voted to read Colson Whitehead's "The Nickel Boys" in April. This Pulitzer Prize winning novel is based on a true story of a reform school that operated for 111 years and warped the lives of thousands of children. We will meet to discuss this classic work on Wednesday April 24 at 7pm in the shop.
As our Nonfiction Book Club "considers the essay", we will read "How Far the Light Reaches" by Sabrina Imbler for April. Part memoir and part study of the intricacies of the ocean, the author/journalist examines the parallels between the lives and priorities of people and aquatic animals. We will meet to discuss this book in the shop on Monday April 29 at 7pm.
Selected titles are always available in the shop for 15% off during the month that we are reading them.

In 'Kick the Latch' we meet Sonia, who, through a series of vignettes, looks back on her life working as a horse trainer. Providing insight into the often brutal world of jockeys, trainers, and racing, Sonia's stories about life at the racetrack are totally captivating. This fictional narrative is based on a series of interviews the author did with a friend of her mother's, and I think this is very much what makes the stories and protagonist feel so alive. Concise, refreshing, and fascinating, if you're looking for a single-sitting read, I strongly recommend picking this one up!"
