Have you seen the little ghost that was hanging around the shop last month? She definitely spooked several readers at our Haunted Book Shop event. It was a fun after-hours shopping experience with spooky decorations, a cauldron full of candy, and readers in costume!
Several downtown businesses came together to create a fun Lord of the Rings themed scavenger hunt. Participants visited each business to "hunt for Gollum" and claim their prize. So many guests arrived in costume! We hope to expand this idea into future multi-business events, so stay tuned!
The last Saturday in October was one of our favorite downtown events of the year - Trick or Treat! We began the festivities early with a special story time where we also decorated treat bags. We have been known to give an extra piece of candy to little tricksters who arrived in book character costumes!

We are kicking of this month by getting the shop all dressed up for the holidays. What is more charming than a bookstore all decked out in Christmas decorations? We hope you stop by to soak up all the joy we are creating.

November Book Club Information
|
|
It's so hard to believe that we are in our final month of book clubs for 2024 (we take a little break in December).
For November, our fiction book club typically reads a slightly shorter novel and meets a week earlier so as not to interfere with Thanksgiving travel. Our club has chosen to read "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros. We will meet to discuss this book on Wednesday November 20 at 7pm in the shop.
Our Nonfiction Book Club considers one final essay collection with "The Book of Delights" by Ross Gay. This essayist is also a poet, and writes beautifully about delights, both big and small. This book is a perfect choice to end the year with. We will meet to discuss this book in the shop on Monday November 25 at 7pm.
Selected titles are always available in the shop for 15% off during the month that we are reading them.

Bookseller Recommendation

|
Jessica recommends "The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot" by Marianne Cronin.
"The book tells the touching story of Lenni, a 17-year-old girl with a terminal illness, and the eccentric Margot, an 83-year-old woman. As they navigate their lives and share their experiences in a hospice, they bond over stories of love and loss. They devise a plan to create one hundred paintings showcasing the combined century they have lived. Cronin's straightforward writing makes both the characters and their friendship feel real and sincere. This novel beautifully highlights the value of human connections and reminds us to embrace life. It will, at times, have you laughing at their antics, while other times leaving you in tears at their heartfelt stories."
You can find "The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot" by Marianne Cronin at Wheatberry Books.
