April Highlights

We had such a wide variety of events at the bookshop last month. There really was something for everyone. We kicked off April by hosting author Mindy McGinnis for a conversation about her newest edge-of-your-seat young adult novel, "Under This Red Rock". Many thanks to Mindy for coming to Chillicothe and to everyone that attended the event! We paid homage to Autism Awareness month with a well-attended storytime that focused on different aspects of life with autism. Our Book Swap Party was a huge hit! It was a great opportunity for readers to do a little spring cleaning of their bookshelves and take home some new-to-them titles. We were delighted to see readers sharing their love of books and exchanging information to keep the conversation going. April came to a close with one of the best days of the whole year - Independent Bookstore Day! The day was filled with enthusiastic readers and book lovers of all ages. We had students dressed for prom stop in for photos, we were visited by a bachelorette party, and enjoyed meeting so many out-of-towners. April 27 was definitely a day for the books!

May Book Club Information
In our "Back to School Book Club", members voted to read "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury in May. This bleak dystopian classic is more relevant today than it has ever been, and is sure to spark an insightful discussion. We will meet to discuss this classic work on Wednesday May 29 at 7pm in the shop.

As our Nonfiction Book Club "considers the essay", we will read "The Fire Next Time" by James Baldwin for May. This classic collection is one of the most noteworthy and influential works of the civil right movement. We will meet to discuss this book in the shop on Monday May 20 at 7pm.

Selected titles are always available in the shop for 15% off during the month that we are reading them.
Bookseller Recommendation
Jessica recommends "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie" by Alan Bradley.
"This is the first book of the Flavia de Luce series, an 11 book series of mysteries set in the English countryside. Flavia is an 11year old amateur crime sleuth with a snarky wit and a love for Chemistry. She spends her days stumbling upon dead bodies and developing elaborate schemes to irritate her older sisters. If you enjoy mysteries, with a touch of wit, this series is a must-read."
You can find "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie" by Alan Bradley at Wheatberry Books.
