May Highlights

The event that we'd been planning all year was a smash hit! Our Fairytale & Fantasy Soiree was held on Saturday May 18 at the Postmark in Chillicothe. Nearly 70 guests showed up in the most magical attire, sipped on glittery drinks, and danced the night away.
The bookshop was abuzz with activity all month long. The month of May began with Yellow Day and all of downtown spreading kindness. We hosted Infinite Machine Comics for Free Comic Book Day, showcased author E. R. Browning, and welcomed multiple school groups. May came to a close with the Feast of the Flowering Moon, which gave us the opportunity to highlight books by Native authors.

June Book Club Information
Our "Back to School Book Club" is kicking summer off by reading "The Outsiders" by S. E. Hinton for June. When it was first published in 1967, "The Outsiders" defied convention with its immediate, deeply sympathetic portrayal of Ponyboy and his struggle to find a place for himself in a difficult world. We will meet to discuss this classic work on Wednesday June 26 at 7pm in the shop.

As our Nonfiction Book Club "considers the essay", we will read "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer for May. This essay collection from an indigenous scientist embraces the notion that plants and animals are our oldest teachers. We will meet to discuss this book in the shop on Monday June 24 at 7pm.

Selected titles are always available in the shop for 15% off during the month that we are reading them.
Bookseller Recommendation
Chelsea recommends "Headshot" by Rita Bullwinkel.
"This knockout debut novel takes the reader inside the minds of eight teenage girls competing in the Daughters of America Cup boxing competition. Their stories encompass their pasts, their futures, and the very physical present. This is the perfect book to read over a couple of leisurely afternoons on the porch this summer. You will find yourself rooting for certain girls and holding your breath to see who comes out on top at Bob's Boxing Palace."
You can find "Headshot" by Rita Bullwinkel at Wheatberry Books.
