The big highlight for August was joining up with Old Capital Brewing to help create a Wheatberry beer! Our staff was able to assist in the production of this delicious wheated beer with blueberry flavor. The geniuses at the brewery are finishing things up, so the Wheatberry beer will be available for your drinking pleasure soon. Watch our social media announcements to see when it gets tapped! OCB has also launched their own book club, Pages & Pints, which we are honored to provide the books for. Nothing is better than downtown businesses supporting each other.
Bookstore Romance Day was celebrated on August 17 with a special giveaway from Telegrahm Gifts. Any purchase of a romance novel was worth an entry into our raffle for a fall cozy reading box that included a blanket, socks, a mug, tea, and accessories. Our long-time customer Ruby Smart was the winner!

September Book Club Information

|
For September, the "Back to School Book Club" is reading "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood. First published in 1985, it is a novel that brilliantly illuminates some of the darker interconnections between politics and sex. We will meet to discuss this classic work on Wednesday September 25 at 7pm in the shop.
As our Nonfiction Book Club "considers the essay", we will read "Congratulations, The Best Is Over!" by R. Eric Thomas for the month of September. With wit, heart, and hope for the future, this essay collection is the not-so-gentle reminder we all need that even when life doesn't go according to plan, we can still find our way back home. We will meet to discuss this book in the shop on Monday September 30 at 7pm.
Selected titles are always available in the shop for 15% off during the month that we are reading them.

Bookseller Recommendation

Luann recommends "Darling Girls" by Sally Hepworth.
"I think Sally Hepworth's newest novel, Darling Girls, is one of her best thrillers yet.
Through different hardships, three girls: Jessica, Alicia, and Norah, have been sent to the same foster home, Wild Meadows. It is not the safe and loving placement they were promised, but the girls form a strong bond and manage to survive by leaning on each other. They may not be sisters by blood, but they are as close as three sisters could be.
Told in alternating voices, past and present, the story weaves a tale of dysfunction and abuse. Miss Fairchild, their foster mother, was unstable and unpredictable. The social worker who placed them there is every child's worst nightmare. Moving forward 25 years, they are well into adulthood, each struggling with problems that stem from their childhood.
One evening, Jessica, Alicia, and Norah are contacted by the police. Human remains have been found on the grounds of Wild Meadows. The police would like to question them, hoping they may be able to shed light on the discovery. Over a period of a few days, the details of all that happened at Wild Meadows unfolds. Discovering who was buried under the farmhouse was not easy, but when police finally arrive at the truth, they find it's a shocking tale."
You can find "Darling Girls" by Sally Hepworth at Wheatberry Books.
