December Highlights
December at Wheatberry Books truly is the most wonderful time of the year! We began the month by celebrating 7 years of sharing books with you. Thank you for making this dream a reality! Our staff (we missed you Angela and Chris!) gathered at The Pour House at Machinery Hall to celebrate the holiday together. Our book clubs also came together for a book exchange and dinner at Fifty West Brewing Company. It is so special to spend time with people who love books and share our favorite reads of the year. Things stayed busy in the bookshop with our 3rd annual Stuffy Sleepover and Story Time, another Bookstore After Dark event, and a pop-up sale by Sleeve It Alone. We are truly thankful for everyone who shopped with us this holiday season. We love helping you choose books for your loved ones!

Book Club Information
We are so excited for the 2025 themes for both of our book clubs.
The Fiction Book Club will be reading award-winning books all year with our "Gold Medal Book Club" theme. Each month, we will read a book that has received a different literary prize, and hopefully add to our book discussion a bit by examining what goes into selecting these titles for the prizes. For January, we will read the 2009 Pulitzer Prize winning novel "Olive Kitteridge" by Elizabeth Strout. This novel offers profound insights into the human condition - it's conflicts, tragedies, and joys.
Our Nonfiction Book Club will be exploring nature through a variety of titles this year, beginning with "A Sand County Almanac" by Aldo Leopold. First published in 1949, this collection of essays combines some of the finest nature writing since Thoreau with a call for changing our understanding of land management.
Bookseller Recommendation
Chelsea recommends "Burial Rites" by Hannah Kent.
"If you love a deeply atmospheric novel that is perfect for winter, Burial Rites by Hannah Kent is a must-read. Based on the true story of Agnes Magusdottir, the last person executed in Iceland in 1830, this book transports you to the stark windswept landscapes of rural Iceland.
As Agnes awaits her execution, she is sent to live with a farming family who struggles with fear, resentment, and eventual understanding of the condemned woman in their care. Kent's writing is haunting and lyrical, weaving together vivid descriptions of the harsh Icelandic environment with the inner turmoil of her characters."
You can find "Burial Rites" by Hannah Kent at Wheatberry Books.
